Work Description:
This file contains correspondence from John and Dominique de Menil and Clyfford and Patricia Still. It opens with a telegram from John de Menil about the death of Jerry MacAgy, of which Still sends his condolences. In 1965 Patrica Still writes to de Menil about two paintings owned by the MacAgys from 1946 (PH-98) and 1947 (PH-237), establishing their painting dates, exhibitions, and sales for the record. De Menil notifies Still that the Jerry MacAgy Collection will be going on display and it includes a 1945 lithograph "Figure" as one of six copies, de Menil tells Still that there will be a catalog for the show. Still is impressed with de Menil's interest and concern on his works from the MacAgy collection, which were left for the de Menils. Still wrote an obituary of Jerry MacAgy for the exhibition of her collection in 1968. There are clippings and articles about the de Menil collection and their work with Houston museums. In the 1980s the de Menils send a variety of invitations to openings in Paris and Houston. A New York Times clipping from May 1989 establishes that the Menil collection seeks a $35 million endowment. Finally, there is a photograph of the lithograph print "Figure" 1945 by Clyfford Still.
