Work Description:
This file contains a letter from Robert Scull to Clyfford Still asking to purchase a painting of Still's; Still never responds. It also includes three clippings one from Newsweek and two from the New York Times. The Newsweek clipping is from 1965 about Scull selling thirteen paintings of Absract Expressionists including paintings from Franz Kline, a 1951 Still, Mark Rothko, Barnett Newman, and de Kooning. The first New York Times clipping is a 1974 article about documents of the auction of Scull's art which includes a number of modern artists, though Clyfford Still is not mentioned. Finally, a clipping from the New York Times Magazine is undated and is about the Scull auction, which the article calls a "circus" and focuses in the sale numbers of the works.
