Work Description:
This file contains correspondence between the Office of the President of the San Francisco Art Institute and Clyfford and Patricia Still. The file opens with Institute Director Gurdon Woods inviting Still to be part of a 1961 specialty course series in which Still would have studio space - the Stills do not respond. In 1976 Still is offered to receive an honorary doctorate from the San Francisco Art Institute of which Still receives due to his long standing relationship with the school going back to the California School of Fine Arts. Roy Ascott, acting president, sends details on the ceremony with the commencement script and Still's speech. In 1996 the Institute reaches out to Patricia Still for a donation for the 125th anniversary, which Still declines to give and finds it to be too much of a burden on the artist. Finally, there is a list of invites to the honorary doctorate commencement in 1976.
