Work Description:
Clyfford Still writes about Mark Rothko introducing him to Peggy Guggenheim. Peggy Guggenheim visits Still's studio to review his paintings before selecting one to hang in her gallery. Peggy introduces Still to Andre Breton, but Breton chooses not to purchase a painting from Still because of the lack of titles. Still writes that he feels like a bad Surrealist. Still goes on to describe his mechanistic method and the universality of life in his work in a brief artist statement. Still also writes about why he doesn't like using words to title his work.
