The images in this file come from 35mm slide photography of the Spring 1972 graduate commencement ceremony at North Dakota State University in Fargo, North Dakota. In a February 1972 letter to Clyfford Still, University President L. D. Loftsgard wrote, "I am most pleased to advise you that upon nomination by members of the faculty of North Dakota State University, the Committee on Honorary Degrees has recommended that you be awarded the degree of Doctor of Fine Arts, Honoris Causa, at the commencement scheduled for Saturday, May 27, 1972. The State Board of Higher Education approved the committee's recommendation at its meeting of February 18, 1972." Patricia and Sandra Still accompanied Clyfford Still to the ceremony; Sandra photographed the event on black-and-white negative film, and Patricia photographed the event on color slide film. This file consists of slides that were developed in June 1972, as determined from processing imprints on the slide frames: JUN72W5 (Ektachrome)
