Work Description:
This file contains correspondence between John and Ineko Stephan and Clyfford and Patricia Still. It opens with an invitation to Stephan's paintings shown in a Newport gallery. Stephan invites the Stills to visit Boston in 1972, but instead Still suggests that the Stephans come to Baltimore as Still doesn't feel he is as up to travel as he used to be. Stephan announces a gallery show in New York, and Still wishes Stephan the best of luck. In 1979 the correspondence becomes more pleasantries between the Cyfford and John. In February 1980 Stephan sends best wishes for Still's hospital visit and health complications including an operation. Stephan notifies the Stills that they are moving to South Carolina in 1980. The Stephans send their condolences upon Clyfford Still's death. The following correspondence between the Stephans and Patricia Still are holiday notes with best wishes upon the new year and gallery openings for Stephan's gallery shows. In 1987 Stephan mentions that Patricia's gift of Still paintings to the Metropolitan Museum of Art is significant and well placed. Stephan also sends congratulations for the Still shows in Europe. In 1993, Patricia Still sends a photocopy of the document book for PH-226 to establish the date and title of the Still painting Stephan owns. In 1995 Patricia sends her condolences upon John Stephan's death. There is an invitation to a memorial show for Stephan. The remaining correspondence are pleasant holiday correspondence between Ineko and Patricia. Finally, there are five (5) undated postcards from the Stephans.
