Work Description:
|
In this black and white photograph, Clyfford Still poses before PH-246 (1951-52, cropped), as installed in the exhibition "15 Americans" at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. On view April 9 through July 27, 1952, the group exhibition featured a diverse range of representational and abstract artworks by fifteen American painters and sculptors. Curator Dorothy Miller arranged for the presentation of multiple compositions by these artists, which served as a departure from typical contemporary art surveys wherein one artwork represented each artist. Still exhibited seven paintings in a gallery space exclusively dedicated to his artwork alone.
