Work Description:
This color slide depicts an installation view of the exhibition “Clyfford Still” at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art in California. PH-123 (1947) hangs to the right of a doorway, followed by PH-966 (1959). In the background, PH-919 (1974, cropped), PH-920 (1974), and PH-245 (1956, cropped) appear within an adjacent gallery from left to right. On view January 8 through April 20, 1976, the exhibition featured thirty-three paintings. Still loaned three artworks from his personal collection to accompany his 1975 gift of twenty-eight paintings, in addition to the two previously owned by the museum. With the acquisition of Still’s gift, the institution constructed a permanent gallery to house the entire collection, while movable walls allowed for the exhibition of select artworks.
