Work Description:
This color slide features an installation view of the inaugural exhibition at the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden in Washington, D.C. PH-336 (1950) occupies the gallery. On view October 4, 1974 through September 15, 1975, the exhibition featured 900 highlights from the art collection of Joseph H. Hirshhorn, who endowed approximately 6,000 modern and contemporary paintings, drawings, and sculptures to the United States government with the Smithsonian Institution acting as administrator. Prior to the opening of the museum, Still gifted three paintings to accompany the six artworks purchased for the collection by Hirshhorn, which included PH-336.
