Work Description:
This color slide depicts an installation view of the group exhibition “1943-1953: The Decisive Years” at the University of Pennsylvania’s Institute of Contemporary Art in Philadelphia. Robert Motherwell's "Sailor" (1947-48), Clyfford Still's PH-141 (1945), and Jackson Pollock's "Untitled" (c. 1951) hang in the gallery from left to right. On view January 14 through March 1, 1965, the exhibition featured forty-four paintings and works on paper by seven major Abstract Expressionist artists. The presentation of these artworks, both small and large in scale, chronicled the stylistic development of the New York School throughout this critical decade.
