Work Description:
In this black and white negative, Mark Rothko, Clyfford Still, and Douglas MacAgy pose for the camera before a sculpture in the gardens of Sutro Heights Park in San Francisco, California. On the left, Rothko wears round glasses and a tweed coat over a dark sweater and slacks. He tucks his right hand into the pocket of his slacks and rests the other against the sculpture behind him. In the center, Still leans his elbow against the sculpture and places his right hand in the pocket of his dark trench coat. He holds a fedora in his left hand. On the right, MacAgy rests his right elbow against the sculpture and holds a cigarette in his left hand. MacAgy wears thick glasses and a light-colored suit coat with dark slacks. Vegetation surrounds the classical sculpture in the background.
