Work Description:
This black and white negative depicts the Washington Monument in Baltimore, Maryland. Completed in 1829, the doric column was the first monument dedicated to George Washington. The Lafayette Monument, an equestrian sculpture memorializing Gilbert du Motier, marquis de Lafayette, appears on the right. The three spires of the Mount Vernon Place United Methodist Church rise into the background. Parked cars occupy the lot in the foreground among small bushes and the Washington Monument's ornamental iron fence.
