Work Description:
This file contains correspondence from the staff of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York City and press releases and news clippings about the Guggenheim Museum. The file begins with a Time Magazine clipping about the building and archetecture for the Guggenheim Museum in Manhattan. Next there is a letter and press release from public Affairs Office Anne Grausam about the New York premieres of two films by Michael Blackwood and narrated by Barbara Rose about ""The New York School" and "American Art of the 60's" with a talk from Rose about documentary films and art history. There is a letter and press release from Thomas Messer about the United States Bicentennial exhibitions at the Guggenheim in 1976 including Twentieth-Century Art Drawing, Painting 1880-1945 from the Guggenheim Collection, and Aspects of Post-War Painting in America. Sandra Still writes to the Guggenheim about Paintings 1880-1945 about how weak the exhibition is as it is an homage to European painting and a slap in the face of American artists, especially as Sandra feels that there is no bridge between European artists and Still's work. There are invitations to exhibition openings and receptions at the Guggenheim. Curatorial Intern Sophie Hager asking Patricia Still permission to reproduce PH-89 and PH-114 in black and white for the catalog for the Jack Youngerman show, which Still declines. There is a newspaper clipping for the Guggenheim Museum's expansion plans in Bilbao Spain from the New York Times. Project Assistant Curator Clare Bell contacts Patricia Still to reproduce Untitled 1951-52, oil on canvas, 113 x155" form the SFMoMA for a Roy Lichtenstein exhibition catalog, which Still declines. Finally, Assistant Managing Editor Edward Weisberger asks permission to reproduce PH-1060.
