Work Description:
This file contains correspondence between Frederich and Marcia Weisman and Clyfford and Patricia Still. The file opens with a letter from Fred Weisman about the fact that Still is clearly angry with him; Wisman mentioned that they agreed on terms for purchasing the 1966 painting (PH-628), opportunities to see Still's work, exhibitions a the Pasadena Art Museum and the San Francisco Art Museum, and the idea of Still moving from New Windsor to California. Still responds that he doesn't mind his work in the Pasadena Museum of Art, but does not want the works to travel; Still points out that the works at the Albright-Knox cannot travel and people visit those works. The Weismans send an announcement on the birth of their granddaughter. Still and Weisman begin discussions in meeting again, during this time Still is frustrated with Betty Freeman's manuscript and he is angry that she is trying to increase her prestige on Still's work. In 1969 Weisman sends a check for $5,000 and notes the balance was $15,000 for PH-628, same with 1970, though the balance is $10,000. There is a press release that Fred Weisman will be the CEO of the Mid-Atlantic Toyota Distributors. There are photocopies of 1970 information on the auction house Parke-Bernet New York which is selling a number of abstract works including Still's "Indian Red and Black 1946-H" for $40,000 - $50,000. The 1971 $5000 payment for PH-628 is sent. There are 1974 clippings about the Weisman art collection. The Weismans send invitations for holiday parties with Toyota. On June 25, 1980 Marcia Weisman writes in condolences of Still's death. There are newspaper clippings about the Frederick R. Weisman Foundation opening at the Palm Springs Desert Museum. There is an obituary for Marcia Weisman in 1991. Finally, there are a series of undated clippings about Fred Weisman's injury in the row with Frank Sinatra at a bar and issues with art auction disputes.
