This file contains correspondence between Thomas Gibson, director of the Thomas Gibson Fine Art Ltd in London, and Clyfford Still and a catalog of the "Thomas Gibson Fine Art Limited 1970-1980". It opens with Gibson writing Still that he will sent his "14 Paintings" catalog and that Still's 1950 black painting was going to the Houston Museum and that Still's 1951 grey painting has been reserved for the National Gallery of Australia in Canberra, additionally Gibson would like to represent Still in Europe and acquire a few paintings of Still's for sale. Still is interesting in the catalog and offers to meet with Gibson in New York to potentially acquire a group of paintings. Gibson offers to meet Still in New Windsor if that would be easier. Still notifies Gibson that all of his paintings in New Windsor are in "inaccessible storage or retired from exhibition" and would need to specify in full any terms of release. Gibson admits he does not understand all of the restrictions, but would like to meet in the new year. Still explains that he is willing to meet Gibson and Lord Gowrie, but none of his paintings would be available for sale. Still and Gibson meet in New York in January of 1978 and they discuss Gibson purchasing a group of Stills for his gallery and catalog. Still decides that that Tate Museum is not capable of managing his paintings and will not release any as of 1978.
