Work Description:
This file contains ephemera from the Madrid Museum Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia and correspondence between Patricia Still and museum director Maria de Corral and other museum staff members. The file opens with the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia 1991-1992 catalog that included two paintings from Clyfford Still PH-379 and PH-19, the latter being displayed upside down. Then there is correspondence between Patricia Still and Corral about the Madrid dates of the traveling exhibition of pieces from the Albright-Knox Art Gallery and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, which is set to open on April 7, 1992. Patricia Still sends her guest list for the opening and intends to attend the opening, and indicates that Sandra and Diane Still would both be attending the exhibition with their husbands. The museum sends information to Still about the opening and the schedule for the opening event. The formal invitation is sent, and Still sends her regrets that she cannot attend, but sends the best wishes. The museum requests the ability to create a documentary on the opening of the exhibition and about the exhibition itself, which Still gives permission for with the condition that she receives a copy of the video once it is created. Still writes Corral that Sandra and Diane both speak highly of the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Rena Sofia and invites Corral to visit should she come to the United States. Diane Still Knox writes Patricia Still about her experience at the museum and her positive experience seeing the paintings in Madrid, though she does say that the overall museum's collection was underwhelming and the Stills were by far the highlight. Both Sandra Still Campbell and Diane Still Knox write Patricia postcards from Madrid about their positive experiences with the exhibition, paintings, and director Maria de Corral. Museum staff write Patricia about the positive reaction to the exhibition and their pleasure in meeting Diane and Sandra. The magazine Arte is included which contains four Still reproductions: PH-157, PH-193, PH-379, and PH-19 (upside down). Finally, Patricia Still thanks the museum staff upon their reports on the exhibition and their care of the paintings.
