This file contains correspondence between Robert Sandberg and Patricia Still. It opens with Sandberg writing Clyfford Still in 1963 about how he has read about Still in Time and Life and knew him at Washington State College where Sandberg was a professors assistant. Sandberg is pleased with Still's success as Sandberg remember Still at Spokane University, and Sandberg purchased a painting of a scene of Native American shakes from Dean Kimbrough and it now hangs prominently in Sandberg's living room and he'd like to purchase one of the abstract works as well. Patricia Still responds to Sandberg's letter notifying him of the lack of display of Still's pieces, but may be able to see some in Buffalo, and that Still is not selling any paintings, but does explain the cost of his paintings as they have ballooned to over $10,000 for small paintings. Sandberg writes to Henry Hopkins at the SFMoMA to offer to display his Still at the SFMoMA in their 1976 exhibition of Clyfford Still's work, but Hopkins will not use it as it is not part of Still's donation. After Still's death, Patricia Still reaches out to Sandberg to correct the dates of his piece to ensure he has an accurate dating of the work, as it was painted in 1936, but Sandberg had it dated at 1945 in his letter to Hopkins. In response to Patricia Still's letter, Sandberg notifies Still that he paid $100 for the painting in 1960 (Dean Kimbrough paid $25) and Sandberg intends to donate the painting to Washington State University in the future and needs the painting appraised. In 1989, Sandberg writes Patricia Still to let her know that Clyfford Still designed the 1932 Spokannual and he was a catcher on the Spokane University baseball team. Patricia appreciates the information and requests photographs of the Spokannual if possible (Sandberg sends images).
