Work Description:
|
This file contains correspondence between David Gibbs and Clyfford Still. It starts with a letter from Gibbs about how much he appreciated meeting Still and seeing his work at the Janis Gallery and offered to helped to Still in anyway should he want support in Europe, Still appreciates his note and hopes to continue their relationship. Still reaches out David Gibbs about a show in Europe and his concerns over the Museum of Modern Art's seriousness in handling his works. Gibbs offers to handle his works in his London Gallery and a creation of a cataloged with Kenneth Sawyer for the works, though Gibbs run into an issue as the insurance and transportation would cost around $2500, which is significantly more than what they anticipated. The show is cancelled due to the costs, but Still sends his appreicaiation towards Gibbs and discusses the ways he has been misaligned by the American art scene. Finally, Gibbs tries to see Still in New York, but is unable to meet - Gibbs hopes to see the Buffalo 1959 show.
