Work Description:

This black and white photograph depicts an installation view of the exhibition “Clyfford Still: Thirty-Three Paintings in the Albright-Knox Art Gallery” at the Albright-Knox Art Gallery in Buffalo, New York. PH-193 (1945) hangs on the far left, followed by PH-266 (1949), and PH-267 (1950) on the right. The artist's daughter, Sandra Still, sits on a bench before a doorway. In the background, PH-199 (1946, cropped) and PH-90 (1948) appear through the doorway within an adjacent gallery. On view February 24 through March 31, 1966, the exhibition honored Still’s 1964 gift of thirty-one artworks, in addition to the two large paintings previously purchased by the institution. The selection of paintings, spanning the years 1937-1963, demonstrated the evolution of Still’s artistic style.
