Work Description: 
This black and white photograph depicts the base of the Washington Monument in Baltimore, Maryland. Completed in 1829, the doric column was the first monument dedicated to George Washington. A street sign in the foreground identifies the monument's location at the crossing of West Mount Vernon Place and Washington Place. An ornamental iron fence surrounds the monument's base. Portions of the Mount Vernon Place United Methodist Church appear in the background.
