Work Description:
This black and white photograph depicts a group of four small children playing in the snowy yard of the house that Clyfford Still constructed himself in Westlock, Alberta, Canada between the spring and summer of 1946. Photographed from an angle, the image captures the front and side views of the house. Three of the children sit under the covered porch near the front door, while the fourth child explores the yard near the side of the house. The address on the side of the house reads: "4914." Icicles hang from the top-floor gutter. A neighboring house appears in the background, separated from Still's property by bushes. This photograph also documents the addition of two new windows, one on the top floor and one on the bottom floor, that Clyfford Still's father, John Elmer Still, installed after Clyfford and his family migrated back to the United States. These more traditional windows replaced a tall vertical window that spanned the top and bottom floors.
