Work Description:
|
This black and white photograph depicts a polo match at the Aiken Polo Club in Aiken, South Carolina. Clyfford Still attended the match with Seymour H. Knox, a financier and arts patron associated with the Albright-Knox Art Gallery, in March of 1966. Three players on horseback engage one another on the field in the center, while a mounted umpire appears behind the barrier in the foreground. A sign at the base of the barrier reads, "Seymour Knox". Beyond the opposing edge of the field, groups of spectators watch the match among a row of parked cars. Trees line the background of the image.
