In this black and white photograph, Clyfford Still poses with Mark and Mary Ellen "Mell" Rothko in Sutro Heights Park, San Francisco, California. All three figures look directly at the camera, but Still is the only one smiling. He wears glasses and a dark trench coat and holds a fedora in his left hand. His right hand rests against a sign that reads, "UNLEASHED DOGS PROHIBITED". The Rothkos appear to the left of the sign. Rothko wears round glasses and a light-colored coat and holds a wide-brimmed fedora in his right hand. A recreation of the Venus de Milo sculpture appears among trees and bushes in the background.
