In this black and white portrait of Clyfford Still, the artist poses before PH-73 (1957) in his studio at 128 W. 23rd Street in New York City. Still wears glasses and a light-colored suit with a vest and tie. Photographed from a low angle, Still's stature accentuates the scale of the vertical canvas. Tucking his right hand into the pocket of his slacks, Still stares directly into the camera. A window on the left casts sunlight onto the floor, the painting, and Still. A wooden chair is partially cut out of the frame on the right.
