In this black and white portrait, Clyfford Still poses before PH-1090 (1978), which hangs in the barn that functioned as his studio in Westminster, Maryland. With his body angled to his right, Still leans forward slightly and looks directly at the camera. He wears a hat, a plaid scarf, leather gloves, black slacks, and a long black coat over an additional tweed coat. The artist also sports a beard. While Still occupies the right portion of the frame, the massive canvas dominates the background of the photograph.
