In this black and white portrait, Clyfford Still creates a pastel drawing in the studio within his home at 312 Church Street in New Windsor, Maryland. Standing behind the table that occupies the foreground, Still looks downward in contemplation at the composition before him. Several abstracted shapes and lines appear on the artwork. Securing the paper's bottom left corner with his left hand, Still holds a pastel crayon in his right hand. He wears a painter's smock over dark slacks, a dark gray shirt, and black tie. The artist also sports a beard. A stretched canvas rests against the wall in the background.
