In this black and white portrait, Clyfford Still appears before a stark white backdrop. It seems as though the original background of the photograph has been removed through digital or physical manipulation, as the rough edges of Still's form reveal an uneven transition between his image and the backdrop. An identical series of photographs situates Still against floral wallpaper. Still leans forward and slightly extends his arms away from his body. He looks directly at the camera as light illuminates the right side of his face. The artist wears a black suit coat over a white shirt and black tie.
