Work Description:
This black and white photograph depicts the construction of the Grand Coulee Dam in Grand Coulee, Washington. The construction of the dam began in 1933 and concluded in 1942. The partially-constructed dam appears near the center of the image. An unfinished portion of its outer wall reveals the barrier's inner structure. Several sets of railroad tracks appear in the foreground, while mountains extend into the distance beyond the Columbia River on the opposing side of the dam. Cranes, scaffolding, buildings, and construction materials occupy the site.
