Work Description:
This black and white photograph depicts the initial construction of the Grand Coulee Dam in Grand Coulee, Washington. The dam's construction began in 1933 and concluded in 1942. Photographed from atop the valley, this image captures the construction of bridges and train trestles over the Columbia River. Buildings, scaffolding, roads, and machinery occupy the flat land in the foreground, while the land across the river features a small town situated at the base of a modest mountain range. Extending beyond the frame's right edge, the river curves through the mountains to divide the land in the valley.
