Work Description:
|
In this black and white portrait, a group of male artists poses in a baseball field at the Yaddo artist's colony in Saratoga Springs, New York. Clyfford Still stands at the far left, wearing a long coat and crossing his arms over his chest. The inscription on the back of the photograph lists the names of the men, but the order in which the names appear may not correspond to their positions. According to a caption accompanying a reproduction of the photograph published in a 1979 exhibition catalog by the Metropolitan Museum of Art , the following men appear from left to right: Clyfford Still, James T. Farrell, Eugene Joffe, Walter Quirt, Henry Bainford Parkes, Leonard Ehrlich, Louis Hechenbleikner, George Novack, Joseph De Martini, Maurice Becker, Jean Liberte, and William McNulty.
