Work Description:
In this early black and white photograph, Sarah Johnson Still holds her infant son, Clyfford Still, while standing on a wooden walkway outside of the family's farmhouse. Still's grandmother, Alice Johnson, appears on the right. She throws her head back and laughs while gripping the handle of an elaborately carved baby carriage. Both women wear long skirts and flowing blouses. Still turns his head to look away from the camera as his mother directs her gaze downward. The farmhouse's facade emerges from the right of the frame. Trees line a path to the additional structure in the background.
