Work Description:
|
In this painting, a single female figure is depicted holding an unknown blue-green object. It is perhaps a swaddled baby, thus infusing the scene with "Madonna and Child" religious undertones, but the teal shape's sharp angles and flat modeling also allude to farm tools or machinery. This figure is significantly stylized and distorted. One breast is shown below a sharply angled and bony shoulder. She wears what appears to be a white, shapeless skirt. Her hands and fingers are flat, outlined shapes, and her head is an elongated, noseless form. She is set against an ambiguous, brown background.
