Work Description:
|
One of three existing sculptures by Still, this rare object is composed entirely of wood. Still created the work primarily through subtractive means, carving an undulating form out of a vertical column of wood. The main form was carved into a tall, columnar form which is widest near its base and tapers off into a small, flat, rectangular form at its apex. A tiny horizontal notch is carved into the face of the rectangular form near its top, suggesting a brow and eye sockets. This feature, paired with several shoulder-like ledges carved about a third of the way down the form, contribute to the overall figural-quality of this sculpture.
