Work Description:
Figure, space, and machinery are all merged and intermingle in this strange, dark painting. The ground is painted with thick strokes of brown, black and cream. What we might understand to be the background in the top right corner winds down along the right edge and ultimately becomes the most prominent white blade-like form we see in the foreground, thus confusing and flattening space. From the center of the blade-like form, unrecognizable tool-like forms are painted in deep blacks and browns and create a strong diagonal up to the top left corner of the painting where three finger-like shapes are painted in shades of red and green. Behind the white blade object, another black vertical jagged saw-like form recedes into the background. The right and bottom edges of the composition are completely filled with abstract puzzle-piece shapes in shades of cream, brown and black.
