Work Description:
|
A large stylized hand-shaped form is shown in the center of a dark brown and maroon painted field. The elongated, finger-like projections rise vertically up to the top of the composition. The positive form of the hand is created by leaving the bare canvas visible and painting around it, thus flattening the overall scene and creating a paradoxical relationship between the positive and negative space; here, the painted "negative" shapes become just as vital to the composition as the unpainted "positive" form.
