Work Description:
This work depicts several city buildings rising from the earth in a snowy landscape under a swirling gray sky, thus creating an overall somber scene. The tallest structure is directly left of center and is painted a deep crimson-maroon color. Its facade boasts six vertically-oriented windows, organized in three rows of two. A tiny establishment with a yellow awning and red and yellow sign sits to the left of this tall, red building. Attached to the other side of the red building is another structure which runs horizontally off the right side of the canvas. This building is painted in tones of blue and teal, with highlights of golden yellow suggesting interior lighted rooms. Its facade is composed of two rows of arches, one on top of the other. Several barren trees, a fence, and a lamp-post with a glowing yellow street light dot the sidewalk in front of these structures.
