Work Description:
|
Painted on the verso of PH-352, this unusual work depicts two towering, triangular forms in the center of an ambiguous setting. The closest form is painted a deep sienna brown, and the form behind that is white, which echoes the pigment used to create the thin strip of ground along the bottom edge. A deep black shadow surrounds the two forms, fading into a soft grayish-brown at left but ending in an abrupt diagonal line parallel to the two forms at right. Long black lines fall in the foreground at right from the top edge down to the bottom edge behind a stark red ovoid form located at the bottom right. When seen in relation to the falling, rope-like lines and considered in the context in which Still created this work, this form resembles a pulley.
