Work Description:
|
Still's abstraction of this work utilized the white of the original canvas as his primary background. Splotches of brown appear in Rorschach-like forms, calling upon the imagination of the viewer to distinguish shapes from the masses. Black splashes of color interrupt the solidity of the brown, adding depth to the work. Solid yellow, gray, and green forms emerge from the canvas, with black splashes of paint linking them like puzzle pieces. At the top of the canvas is a thin red flash appearing through one of the brown forms. The carefully simplistic use of color adds to the overall power of the work.
