Work Description:
This late, vertically-oriented painting is full of fluttery, jagged fields of color. The largest field is painted in a rich ocher pigment and sits near the bottom center and right. Black fields enter from the right center and left center, and areas of yellow and green fill the bare canvas at bottom left. Deep mahogany forms float at top left and top center, each accented nearby by bright cherry-red forms. Finally, a tiny purple form peeks in from the right edge just above center visually balancing the colorful scene.
Clyfford Still, PH-873, 1973. Oil on canvas, 92 x 78 3/4 inches (233.7 x 200 cm). Clyfford Still Museum, Denver, CO.
