Work Description:
|
A down-trodden group of seven farmer-type figures stares out at the viewer with sad, blank stares. They stand in front of and within a yellow, wooden structure with bluish windows. The figure on the far left wears overalls and a pale blue collared shirt. His proper right arm is outstretched and rests on the wooden door or window frame. Behind him, a severely distorted figure lurks in the shadows with grossly enlarged hands. Just right of center in the foreground, a female figure in a raspberry-colored dress sits on the structure's front steps while nursing a baby. On the far right, an older, white-haired figured sits with a white shawl wrapped around her shoulders. Two smaller, children figures sit behind the two women and rest their arms and heads on the porch rail.
