In this small electric portrait, Still has painted his white-haired mother from the shoulders up wearing a vivid cobalt blue collared jacket, a lilac and greenish shirt with a white lace collar, and a yellow broach at the top of her breastbone. She stares out at the viewer with piercing gray-blue eyes and a pursed mouth. The background is an ambiguous yellow and white field of color reminiscent of Still's abstractions.
