Work Description:
This color slide depicts the installation of the exhibition "Clyfford Still" at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art in California. PH-969 (1954) occupies the front-facing partition in the middleground. Proceeding clockwise, PH-261 (1962), PH-393 (1956), and PH-795 (1971, cropped) line the wall to the right. In the background, a portion of PH-968 (1951-52, cropped) appears within an adjacent gallery. On view January 8 through April 20, 1976, the exhibition featured thirty-three paintings. Still loaned three artworks from his personal collection to accompany his 1975 gift of twenty-eight paintings, in addition to the two previously owned by the museum. Following the acquisition of Still’s gift, the institution constructed a permanent gallery to house the entire collection, while movable walls allowed for the exhibition of select artworks.
