These students -- all from the California School of Fine Arts -- invited Clyfford Still, as a special honor, to show his paintings in the Metart Gallery's final exhibition. The following are the names of those who contributed funds to rent the gallery space for one extra month expressly for this purpose. They contributed also their time attending the Gallery, which they kept open Monday through Friday 3 to 9 and Saturday and Sunday 12 to 6 o'clock. There was one other student who volunteered the latter -- as he said -- "just to get to look at the paintings".

Work Description:
This typed document chronicles the history of student involvement with the exhibition "Paintings by Clyfford Still" at the Metart Gallery in San Francisco. In 1946, Still returned to the Bay Area to begin teaching at the California School of Fine Arts. A group of CSFA students, listed here, opened the Metart Gallery at the artist's recommendation in 1949. With the announcement of his resignation from his position the following year, Still's students invited him to show a selection of thirteen paintings, twelve of which were completed during his teaching term at the school. On view June 17 through July 14, 1950, the presentation of these artworks served as the gallery’s final exhibition.
