Work Description:
This typewritten catalog lists the thirteen artworks exhibited in "Paintings by Clyfford Still" at the Metart Gallery in San Francisco. Each entry documents information concerning the paintings' materials, provenance, measurements, and publication and exhibition histories. In 1946, Still returned to the Bay Area to begin teaching at the California School of Fine Arts. A group of CSFA students opened the Metart Gallery at Still’s recommendation in 1949. With the announcement of the artist’s resignation from his position the following year, his students invited him to show a selection of thirteen paintings, twelve of which were completed during Still’s teaching term at the school. On view June 17 through July 14, 1950, the presentation of these artworks served as the gallery’s final exhibition.
