Work Description:
This photocopy documents Hubert Crehan's review "Clyfford Still's Exhibition", which was originally published in the San Francisco Chronicle, This World, on July 9, 1950. Crehan discusses the significance of the exhibition "Paintings by Clyfford Still" at the Metart Gallery in San Francisco, on view June 17 through July 14, 1950. Through brief descriptions of the large paintings' abstract and spiritual qualities, he asserts that Still's innovation transcends that of other artists in the Bay Area. Crehen, who was also an artist, studied under Still at the California School of Fine Arts. A group of CSFA students, including Crehan, opened the Metart Gallery at the artist's recommendation in 1949.
