This black and white photograph depicts an exterior view of the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art in California. A sign near the entrance to the museum announces "Clyfford Still", on view January 9-March 14, 1976. However, these dates prove to be incorrect, as the exhibition actually spanned January 9 through April 20, 1976. The exhibition featured thirty-three paintings. Still loaned three artworks from his personal collection to accompany his 1975 gift of twenty-eight paintings, in addition to the two previously owned by the museum. Following the acquisition of Still’s gift, the institution constructed a permanent gallery to house the entire collection, while movable walls allowed for the exhibition of select artworks.
