Work Description:
In this early black and white portrait of Clyfford Still, the artist poses in the woods, probably near his family's home in Spokane, Washington or Alberta, Canada. Standing next to a rustic bench constructed from tree branches, Still wears round glasses and a black double-breasted suit with a light-colored cap. He looks directly at the camera and positions his left hand on his hip. A dense grove of trees occupies the background of the photograph.
