Work Description:
In this strange painting, a tall crane-like form stands in front of a flat taupe-colored background. Within the form, flat multi-colored shapes fit together like puzzle pieces, and are stylized to resemble the Art Deco, streamlined aero-space design popular during this time period. Blue, white, black, and yellow dominate the interior of the form itself, and a red disc rises from the bottom right area of the figure. Three lines stream off the left side form near its center and run down parallel to its edge before meeting the figure's base near the bottom left. The entire form resembles an odd amalgamation of Still's crane sketches and his studies of shipbuilding plans created while working in the San Francisco Bay Area during World War II.
