Work Description:

A rich black pigment fills this large, almost square canvas, though several small colorful passages float near the bottom left corner and a small area at the top right corner has been left unpainted. Two small bright cobalt blue forms, a gray, and several small white passages sit along the left edge near the bottom. A deep magenta form and a barely-visible dark brown form float off to the right and above the blue areas, completely surrounded by their presiding black surroundings. Three small dabs of blue sit along these two shapes' edges, visually linking them to the blue and gray forms at left. A lighter brown and red patch sits along the bottom edge near the bottom right corner. Lastly, Still isolated an irregular, vertical shape within the black background along the upper right edge below the bare canvas, but maintained its black hue to play with the spatial interplay of the composition. To do this, Still painted the area with an unknown type of varnish or a paint with a different media-to-pigment ratio, which has over time unfortunately severely contracted and begun to pull away from the surface of the work.
